Last friday (September 4th) sudden departure of Burmese activist Nay Tun Naing, the president of NLD(LA) Korea Branch, has shocked and deeply saddened friends and colleagues in Korea and elsewhere. He was a person who would laugh every 5-10 second and extremely warm and kind. I’d been personally owed him a lot early days when Burma completely unwelcomed journalist. No doubt many other Korean journos and activists too. Although I have become critical of NLD and Aung San Suu Kyi while he had been devoted NLD supporter, I never doubt his commitment for ‘genuine’ democracy. Never. Terribly regret not to have caught him up for more discussion about the country we loved, including our differences, a society we dreamed. This smile man would be ever missed. Rest In Peace Bro.

지난 9월 4일, 민족민주동맹 한국지부 의장 내이툰 나잉씨가 심근경색으로 갑작기 우리곁을 떠났습니다. 개인적으로 그에게 빚을 많이 졌습니다. 버마문이 굳게 닫혔던 시절 그가 준 팁들이 제 취재의 출발이자 원동력이었습니다. 저보다 더 자주 웃던 사람, 늘 편하고 언제든 반가운 동무하기 제격인 사람, 그런 동무가 이렇게 갑자기 떠날 줄은 몰랐네요. 마지막 두번의 한국방문동안 그를 찾아가지 않았던 걸 극심히 극심히 후회하며, 갑작스런 죽음에 어떻게 애도해야 할 바를 몰라 사진첩과 기억을 죄다 뒤졌습니다. 일단 두번의 이벤트에 흔적을 남기셨더군요. 첫 사진의 이벤트는 2005년 7월 14일 국가인권위의 난민관련 공청회입니다. 나머지 사진이 담긴 두번째 이벤트는 2007년 10월 2일 버마 샤프란 혁명직후 서울 버마대사관앞 시위입니다. 이 사진을 찍은 다음 날 저는 다시한 번 내이툰 나잉씨의 팁을 들고 버마로 갔습니다. 2005년 화일은 찾을 수가 없어 혹시나 검색을 해봤더니 제가 <시민의 신문>에 썼던 글이 <민중의 소리>에 제가 찍은 고인사진과 함께 걸려 있네요. ‘민중의 소리’ 워터마크까지 박힌 채 (약간 당황). 그래서 하나 건졌습니다. (민중의 소리 워터마크는 컷) 내이툰 나잉님, 못다한 얘기 많아 그냥 보내드리기 너무 아쉽습니다. 부디 민주평등인권 세상에서 평안히 잠드시길 바랍니다.
