이유경 기자는 태국 방콕에 베이스를 두고 아시아의 분쟁과 인권문제를 집중 취재하여 글과 사진으로 기록하는 프리랜서 언론인입니다.

한국에서 살아온 만 30년의 마지막 9년을 민주언론운동시민연합에서 활동한 바 있는 이유경 기자는 2004년 6월 이래 아프가니스탄, 버마, 인도, 이란, 카슈미르 (인도령 & 파키스탄령), 라오스 (집속탄), 레바논, 네팔, 파키스탄, 스리랑카 그리고 태국의 정치적 위기와 남부 분쟁 지역을 취재하는 등 분쟁이 양산하는  참상과 불의의 현장을 생생하게 전해왔습니다.

그녀의 기사와 사진은 <한겨레21> 과 독일 진보 일간지 <Neues Deutschland>등에 게재되며 한국어, 독일어, 영어권 독자들을 다양하게 만나고 있습니다.

이유경 기자는 언론의 독립성과 자유가 심각하게 위협받는 주류독식 환경을 진실 추구와 탐사보도에 기반한 정론으로 극복할 수 있다고 믿습니다. 저서로는 <아시아의 낯선 희망들> (인물과 사상사 / 2007)와 <평화를 향한 아시아의 도전> (공저, 나남 / 2008) 가 있으며 역서로는 <누가 무장단체를 만드는가 – 원제 In The Shadow of Violence / 현암사, 2010> 가 있습니다.

Lee, Yu-Kyung is a Korea born-Journalist (writer and photographer) based in Bangkok, Thailand. Having been a longtime media activist in Korea, she was determined to leave the country to explore the world, finding out unheard of stories by her own.

Since June in 2004, she has started on covering about victims of war, injustice, human rights violations, crime against humanity from Afghanistan, Burma, India, Iran, Kashmir (of the both), Laos (Cluster Bombs), Lebanon, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Thailand.

Her articles and photos (essay) have been published mainly in <HanKyoReh 21> , which is the most respected Weekly Journal in South Korea, and the progressive daily <Neues Deutschland> in Germany. Other publishers of her works include <Die Wochenzeitung> (Switzerland), <Asia-Pacific Times> (Germany), <Mygreennews.com> (Germany) and <Weekly KyungHyang> (Korea). She occasionally contributes her article to Green Left Weekly, the Australia’s leading alternative newspaper.

In 2007, she has authored a book titled ‘Hope and Desperation’ (in Korean), where her selected works and unreported stories from various conflict zones in Asia, were compiled.  She also has co-authored ‘Challenge for Peace‘ (in Korean, 2008) for the Sri Lanka chapter of the book.

She has recently translated In the shadow of violence – The politics of Armed Groups -, a book written by German scholar Klaus Schlichte, into Korean. The Korean edition has been published by a publishing house HyeonAmSa in a title of Who are the first movers forming Armed Groups.
